My Dogs
2010
Flynn Nov 2010
We have owned dogs all our lives and have had many dogs over the years.
The dogs are first and formost our pets and companions and anything they do and achieve in their life time is an added bonus. They are treated as best as we possibly can and enjoy spending their days lazing on the sofas, playing and charging about.
They espcially enjoy being spoilt by my Dad, Vic who lets them get away with murder and is always giving them food and treats.
My mum had dogs from a young age and started to compete in obedience with Satch a Labrador x who did very well. She then got her first German Shepherd Prince (Arnpriors non entity) and gained many first places with him at open obedience shows. But unfortunetly he died young at 5 years old of Lymphocarcoma.
Then she got our first springer spaniel, Ben was a typical springer and this meant obedience was not his thing and he spent most of his time lazing around on the sofa or chasing around after my brother phil. he was one in a million.
Along came Pax a Border collie cross but at 18 months old he was tragically run over outside our home after he got lost in the woods and was trying to get home.
Teela was our second German shepherd and did a little obedience but time and young children meant that it was very difficult. She died at 13 1/2 and was such a laid back and loyal dog.
We then had Jed (Ebontide Ferryman) a Groenendael who mum started to show, he qualified for crufts 1992 gaining a reserve, but he did not like the show ring and mum decided it was best to stop. He was much loved and died at 14 years old in 2004. He was on his own for many years after Teela died as he preferred his own company.
So in 2004 after Jed passed away we found it very difficult to come home to an empty house so we decided to get another Dog which was Amber our 3rd German shepherd.
As I myself Alison was much older when we got Amber I became very involved with dogs and the dog world and was interested in agility.
I started to take her to classes when she was 12 months old and I became hooked I now compete with both her and flynn. I also got involved in the KCGCDS Classes and we worked are way through the awards.
My mum has always admired the Australian Shepherds ever since they came into the country and in 2006 she got her dream. We got Flynn (Drcral Majestic Prince P.Beg ex). He was mums dog and she wanted to try and show him and started off showing him for a while but after I had a go at showing him at Richmond 2006 I got bit by the bug. I did a couple more shows after this and mum Decided she prefered to watch so I took over and I haven't looked back since. Mum started to do obedience with him and he picked things up very quickly , Although his very stubborn and at times quite hard to train. I Started agility with him when he was old enough which he enjoys so much that he can't wait to get to the field. I took over the Obedience with him also because I did the showing and agility aswell with him it seemed to make sense that I did the Obedience also.
Jake our second springer joined the family in september 2006. I started to do obedience with him when he was a puppy but Mum and I swapped dogs and she now trains Jake and I train Flynn, mum has also started to do agility with him.
I am an assistant puppy trainer at our local obedience club and have been doing this for about a year and a half. I am currently working with children full time but I am looking to change my career and work with dogs, I would hopefully in the near future set up my own buisness. But at the moment I am just going to enjoy our dogs and carry on the many activities that we do with them.
