My wife and I became interested inSpaniels as a breed purely by chance, a friend of ours was moving back to the u.k. from South Africa and was importing his two Blue Roan Spaniels into Heathrow, because of work commitments he couldn`t pick them up from the kennels where they spent their quarantine, so I volunteered, he was called out of the country the next day and we ended up inheriting two beautiful cockers, a white tick dog and a dark roan bitch. A couple of weeks after getting them home and tranfering the ownership through the S.A. Kennel Club, the bitch started putting on some weight, so we took her to our vet, Congratulations says he, she`s pregnant! As they had only ever been in together (Millie and Max) and as they were compatible, it wasn`t a disaster, just a suprise. Considering they were supposed to be in Kennels! I have been retired through ill health scince the early nineties and my wife works for a local charity,so we have plenty of time for our dogs . We went on to have three more blue roan litters over the next fifteeen years. Sadly we lost both of our blue roans in the space of months and after much soul searching ,decided that we enjoyed keeping and breeding Spaniels so much that we would start again. Lotte is the oldest of our girls we now have, she is three now, and Bess is her daughter from the first litter, she will be having her first litter later this year.
