All of the dogs we have living with us are pets who live in the house with us, and enjoy the freedom of the house and garden. They love being in the garden, and I use that term loosely, it used to be a lovely garden with lawn and plants but there was a Newfquake, now it is paving slabs. We got our first Newfie in January 2002 and were smitten by this wonderul, magnificent breed. Another one followed, then another, it is an addiction and I think anyone who has a Newfoundland will agree, you can never have just one! We enjoy showing the dogs and have travelled all over the country to open and Champ shows, where we have enjoyed success especially with Travis. All of our dogs are hip scored, heart and cystinuria tested. They all love swimming and we often go to the local Hydrotherapy pool where they are always greeted by the girls running for their waterproofs; they know they are going to get soaked, when a Newf jumps in the pool the water jumps out! Now and again I put a wet suit on and brave the North sea with them. Our bitch Ruby had her first litter in Feb 2006, which was a wonderful experience, she is a fantastic Mum. I had marvellous help from my friends June and Howard Parker. We have kept two puppies from the litter, Dooley who is showing the signs of inheriting his Daddy's good looks and having good success in the show ring; and Cassie who is full of fun like her Mum. I chose the Priorscove affix as I wanted a "local" theme. Tynemouth Priory stands on a hill overlooking the mouth of the Tyne. There is a lovely bay there where the dogs love swimming, so I thought it would be quite apropriate. |
