Welcome to Braccari, the world's first kennel to make up a UK Bracco Italiano to FCI Champion status & the world's first to make up a UK (bred & based) Bracco to International Show Champion status! (latter subj. to confirmation). Our kennel is the home of the first Bracco to win the Gundog Group - 2009 - and still the ONLY female to do so to date. We regularly campaign the Bracco both abroad and in the UK- 9 countries since 2006. We campaign them ourselves and as a result, we are proud to say our dogs' combined achievements make us historically the most successful ever UK Bracco kennel in the breed's homeland Italy, and even internationally.

During 2008-11 our dogs and kennel have taken no less than 33 breed firsts/records. We are so privileged to promote the Bracco so successfully.

We are located on the outskirts of London, England, right by the River Thames and live only 5 minutes away from a 77-hectare expanse of 8,000 year-old woodland and fields. Since the Bracco is a breed in absolute need of daily off-lead running to utilise their inherent hunting skills and boundless energy, this is ideal.

One of us began with owning Gundogs back in 1981 (English Springer Spaniels), the other was involved with rescues from 1980. We became very interested in the Bracco Italiano in 2001, and have been passionate about the breed ever since.

Our Kennel Policy means that our Bracchi, whilst being regularly put forward for examination by breed specialists in Europe, will always much more importantly be given the love, exercise and comfortable life they so richly deserve as fully-integrated members of our family and home.

Breeding Policy and the UK Bracco gene pool

We are stringent regarding breeding matters. One main reason for this is the numerically-small breed numbers here in the UK (only 275 dogs at Sep 08) and another is based on health which is always important but especially so in low-numbered breeds.

Enthusiasts old or new of this breed can always be assured that at Braccari, we strive to make breeding decisions strictly geared towards the overall betterment of the tiny UK bracco gene-pool regardless of difficulty or expense. For example we have imported superb Italian bloodlines for breeding rather than just using what is in the UK which has been in some cases heavily over/inter-bred, we have turned down stud and bitch breeding requests from some UK stock owners with this in mind and we have successfully obtained the services of a top health-checked Italian Champion stud to introduce the best Italian lines.

We would also never buy a puppy from any Bracco breeder who has whelped a litter with parents less than around 2 years old MINIMUM, or agree a mating with any kennel that has produced or bought from such a breeder: both of these ethical standpoints discourage farming.

To us it is never about just close availability of dogs or bitches in the UK, but about the overall breed.
