Our family has lived in West Sussex all our lives which gives us the advantage of the sea side and the countryside.
We have always had dogs but waited until the children had got older before deciding to breed golden retrievers. We have looked into breeding for a few years asking all the right questions and getting lots of advice along the way. We also learnt from our mistakes. Rosie our first golden retriever who is now eight was the first retriever we were going to breed, her hip score came back at 6 which was great but her eyes had a problem. This in effect would mean that her puppies would inherit the problem so we decided to have her spayed. Many people asked me if we were going to keep her because of this but as we said our dogs are pets and part of the family first. I did write to the breeder where I got her from just to make her aware and to make sure she never bred from her mother again, but I never got a reply from her and looking back now see why you have to be so careful when not only choosing a puppy but choosing a breeder to! Megan is five and Ellie her daughter eighteen months. Megan took to motherhood well and enjoyed visitors looking at her puppies. Now she has just had her second litter she is even more confident with them. Our most important aim is to breed healthy puppies with both parents eyes clear and both with good hip scores ,we hope this will give the puppies a good start in life. People who are interested in our puppies must have knowledge of golden retrievers and preferably owned dogs before. All prospective owners will be carefully vetted. We also have Holly our springer spaniel she is just a pet but too mad to have any pups of her own. Then there are the cats. Yes maybe we are mad like Holly!
