Come and meet the rest of the Vardanel Clan by taking a look at our Great Dane website on www.greatdane.me.uk and our Cavalier King Charles Spaniels at www.ckcs.me.uk

We have one handsome male Blenheim Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy looking to find his own special family.

Anita’s Story :

It all started when Anita bought her first fawn Great Dane Bridie, in 1987. Even at this early stage it seemed that she was a ‘natural’ for getting the best out of her Danes. At 3 years old and after some studying of pedigrees etc. she intuitively chose a stud dog for Bridie that resulted in a daughter, Fern.

Before Fern was born Anita acquired two black Great Danes, Leah and Ebony. They were litter sisters of ‘totally’ different type. Leah was tall and elegant with a beautiful what we call ‘English’ type head. Ebony was shorter coupled than Leah, shorter in height and with a squarer head being more like as we say, the ‘German’ type. Both had good level toplines and sound movement: what a way to start!

Now the story of showing and breeding takes off........ Fern had a very successful show carrier from puppy to adult culminating at the time when she became joint top winning fawn bitch at the breed finals. Leah and Ebony were shown and were very well received in the ring, but their main success was in their progeny and in particular two black girls of similar types to each other; Bethan and Kiri. These girls were very successful in the show ring, (indeed, Bethan became top winning black bitch for 1994 and runner up in 1993 at the Great Dane League Finals) and for continuing the now established breeding programme.

Kiri and Bethan produced:

¨ Natasha : (blue) uniquely acheiving Top Winning Blue Great Dane Bitch for three consecutive years at the Great Dane League Finals (1996 1997 1998)

¨ Dominic : (black)

¨ Georgia : (black)

Georgia, our beautiful black bitch has the enviable position of being the result of joining the two ‘forces’ of the original girls, Leah and Ebony as well as uniting the two ‘forces’ of Anita and Gina.

Gina’s Story:

I have been involved with breed showing since 1978 when I bought a West Highland White Terrier, learnt how to ‘hand strip’ his coat and use to advantage as much loose chalk as I could possibly get away with! He was introduced to the world of dog shows and I was as they say, ‘bitten’! My next acquisition was a black Newfoundland dog. New grooming techniques learnt and new skills acquired and I was off again. Tragically, he died at the age of three through bloat.

Then came Holly; I had her on ‘breeding terms’ and she was campaigned on the show circuit where at one point she reached the dizzy height of being top Newfoundland puppy, (dizzy for a relative novice you understand). But sadly, her career ended when I became a full time student for 3 years studying chiropody. Very useful for anatomy and physiology etc. but please, no comments about feet! However, Holly did make her third visit to ‘Cruft's but lack of training etc. resulted in ‘disaster’ for me and a great day for her, leaping around the ring as though she was at the seaside! Holly was put to stud three times but she couldn’t be wooed by the country’s finest. No puppies, but Holly’s ownership was transferred into my name and she remained with me until she gracefully passed on, shortly before her 14th birthday; not bad for a breed that has a short life expectancy, much like that of the Gt Dane.

I was introduced to Gt. Danes at the end of the of the 1980’s, when I looked after my brother’s black bitch for 3 years his job having taken him abroad: I was hooked - short coat, gentle, amiable and NOT a big fan of water - perfect!
When my brother returned to the UK and collected his Dane the void was enormous but in a short space of time a beautiful blue bitch came to join our family. Since then I have had the pleasure of living at home with 20 or so, senior Great Danes and numerous puppies.

My activities with Danes include breeding, Breed Showing, Agility Shows with clear round rosettes and judge’s specials won i.e. accurate but slow, (especially through the tunnels!). We enjoyed cycling (I rode the bike!) and hiking and I remember one glorious day we walked to the top of Sca Fell Pike in the Lake District.
For several years I played an active role in the now very popular event of ‘Discover Dogs’. It started at Cruft’s where I believe ‘our’ Stand was unique in providing a display. I designed and produced a simple display showing the attributes of this magnanimous breed. Over many years, my displays got bigger and more grand intending to depict the Great Dane with the highest esteem possible. Danes to me, are the perfect requisite for a fulfilling existence.

It was whilst manning the booth at Discover Dogs that the paths of Anita and myself crossed. We were both on duty for the duration, giving help and advice were we could and that was it............
the initiation of “VARDANEL GREAT DANES”.

A total of well over 40 years varied experience amalgamated by chance and now striving relentlessly forward in the never ending pursuit, of producing quality Great Danes of type and temperament for show and pet homes alike.

THE FUTURE OF VARDANEL

Jasmine has matured into a magnificent, sound, powerful, and striking bitch and at the same time she has retained all her feminine features. She has a beautiful English type head, a good depth of brisket, is well angulated and has a good width of thigh. She has a temperament that is a dream and to see her move is amazing, such drive and strength propelling her forward, she looks as though she can go on forever.

The story of our harlequins moves into the future with Jasmine's stunning daughter Freya, who now has a daughter of her own. Meet bonny baby Vienna and is she like her Grandmother? Oh yes! In so very many ways.

Now this is why we get such pleasure from breeding. To see the ways of the old coming out in their young as they grow and mature and become mums themselves, is just so enchanting.

Lottie Lavinia, is our lovely girl from Georgia. She is a feminine bitch with an elegant but strong head and sound conformation. She has a wonderful temperament - fun, inquisitive, cheeky and now, just starting to show through is the dignity and presence that her mum has.

Lottie has given us two special girls, our stunning Savannah and Madison.

LACEA and DOLORES
LACEA and DOLORES

Our fawn girls Dolores and Lacea are both very different in type.

Dolores is a very good bodied bitch with a full black mask and dark eye. She is every inch a 'lady' - tall, elegant, proud, graceful and magestic..

Lacea is a strong bitch of imposing appearence. She has a striking head, good depth of brisket and powerful physique.

By bringing the qualities of these two girls together, with Dolores being the Mum and Lacea's son Murphy being the Dad, we are thrilled to say we have our magnificent fawn girl Desiree.

Where do we go from here? Could the future of our beloved Great Danes be any more exciting? .... Let's draw a breath and take time to consider just how fortunate we are to share our lives with these incredible babies, both young and old!
